Rising from the end of the southern pier at the entrance to Holland Harbor in Holland, MI, the iconic Holland Harbor Light, affectionately known as Big Red, stands as a vibrant sentinel on the shores of Lake Michigan.
This striking structure, with its distinctive Dutch Revival architecture, features a gabled square building with a steel-plated upper tower, all painted a deep red. Its bold form and distinct color create a dramatic silhouette against the surrounding waters.
The lighthouse is anchored to a concrete breakwater, with the deep blue expanse of Lake Michigan stretching to the horizon on one side and the bustling activity of the harbor on the other. This picturesque scene makes the Big Red Lighthouse one of the most photographed and beloved landmarks along the coastline of Western Michigan.
