Perched on the windswept shores of Northern Michigan, the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse keeps a silent vigil over the Straits of Mackinac.
Constructed at the edge of Mackinaw City, the sturdy, cream-brick, Norman-Revival-style structure was built to withstand the punishing gales of the Great Lakes. Visitors can explore the meticulously preserved interior, which provides a glimpse into the daily lives of the lighthouse keepers who once tended the beacon.
Today, the Old Mackinac’s historic grounds offer a breathtaking view of the modern engineering marvel that eventually replaced its guiding light: the soaring steel spans of the Mackinac Bridge, arching across the horizon and connecting Michigan’s peninsulas.
